Don Goo
TAW: Jeff, you have had an extensive career in adult before breaking out and creating your own film company, Don Goo Productions. Can you tell us about your background?JK: I spent twenty years at Merrill Lynch in my former life as a money manger. After retiring in 1997, I looked for new challenges and met Nick Steele at Ultimate Pictures; he brought me in to "learn" the business. I actually started in his warehouse in 1998. From there I met Mary Gates from Adam and Eve. She asked me to come to North Carolina to build her a wholesale and licensing division. I took Adam and Eve from a little known wholesale brand into what they are today, the revenue increased 500%, and I closed a ten year deal with Playboy for broadcast (worldwide) worth well over $2 million a year. In 2002, Mary became very ill and David Groves took over for her, as Head of New Business at Adam and Eve (he also ran the Web sites and the cash cow mail order business). David and I came from different schools of thought, and he bought out my contract in late 2002. I was then offered a position at Jill Kelly as Head of Production and Sales. I brought in over one million in business for Jill, but was forced out of the company after nine months by CEO Bob Friendland. His reputation stands on his own, so I won't get into that; needless to say, Jill benefited greatly by my tenure there, including my raising over $500,000 in venture capital for her. JK: After all of the above I decided it was time to start my own company, but I did not want to be just another studio. After careful reviewing [of] the market, a huge hole appeared. Many small (but high quality studios) were struggling with the sales and management end of the business; they were great creators of content, but really had no business selling. As a sales professional I opened up as an "exclusive studio distribution" company. I share revenue with the studio. I have paid over $150,000 in royalties to my studios in our first eight months. We offer open accounting to all our clients. We currently have nine studios in house, not counting our own in house brand. Our revenues will top two million this year, and we already have over one hundred titles. And away we go! - The Adult Webmaster Magazine. |
